We’re Going to the Chapel…
On 27th December 2016 by HelenBoxing Day was slightly unusual in the fact that I attended a wedding. It’s not your usual date for a wedding but it was such a fabulous day!
Back in the UK I worked with an Aussy called Louise and we’ve kept in contact since she has returned back to Australia. Her wedding perfectly coincided with my travels and I was so happy to be asked to attend!
I have never I’m my life been around a more chilled out and relaxed bride. She picked me up from the ferry in the morning, then took me with her to get her make up done then back to her family home where the wedding was being hosted. I met her parents and her fiancé’s mother. We spent some time chatting before we started to get ready.
We had fun and games trying to get all of the curlers out of Louise’s hair as they kept sticking and causing a right mess, we couldn’t stop laughing. Once that had been tackled we put her dress on which was beautiful and Grecian in style, then went back to the hair to fit her flower crown. The crown was perfect not over the top and in complete proportion. She looked beautiful.
Guests started arriving at 2:30-3pm and the ceremony was at 4pm. I was a little apprehensive before going because I didn’t know anyone and being single and attending a wedding can leave you at times feeling slightly awkward, especially when you are at the age where everyone is taken and there aren’t really any other singletons. However I had a great time. Louise and her now husband’s friends are so welcoming, kind and fun, I didn’t feel awkward at all.
The ceremony was lovely. It was to the point and had good humour throughout. The couple’s dog acted as ring bearer with the rings attached to his special bandana ‘best dog’.
The speeches were heartfelt and comical, perfectly timed.
After that it was time to party and socialise. The food that was provided was unbelievable there was cheese, dates, figs, olives, meats, chicken skewers with mango and chilli, risotto, meatballs, pulled pork sandwiches, smoked salmon and cream cheese filo parcels, spring rolls and more. It was probably the best wedding food for a buffet style I have eaten. The bar was also free flowing all night.
I have to say if I could change one thing about myself it would be my ability to party. I’m just not that good at it. I felt so tired by 8pm. Not helped by the fact I had had two 1am finishes the previous nights and had cooked for so many the day before. I got my second wave of energy but could only manage to 11:30pm. It was so kind of Louise and her family to put me up for the night in their home.
I had such a fabulous day and I wish the new Mr and Mrs Hughes a lifetime of happiness! Thank you so much for inviting me and letting me share your special day! X
