Vision Fitness, Henham, Essex
On 6th January 2019 by HelenIt’s been a while since I’ve written a specifically ‘health and fitness’ blog – usually my health and fitness is residing over on Instagram and usually involves a picture of my legs in gym gear or empty running machines as proof of me being in the gym. In fact the last post I wrote with health and fitness in the title involved a 20km hike through the New Zealand mountains. Therefore this means I’ve found something worthwhile to talk about.
Nestled in the heart of the village of Henham in Essex is Vision Fitness, the brainchild of Ollie who had the vision (no pun intended) of seeing a gym in the midst of a building site by converting an old farming storage barn.
If, like me, you feel the fear of going into a weights area and having ‘posers’ all around you lifting heavy weights whilst you’re there with your 5kgs, and if, like me, you generally feel pretty anxious and self conscious in general in a gym, then I’ve found your solution. From the moment I walked through the door I was instantly welcomed by Lyndsey the resident personal trainer and was immediately asked to fill in a health and safety form to make sure I was safe to be in a gym (basically make sure I wasn’t going to die mid session), I was then shown around the gym which is small but has every piece of equipment you could ask for. I didn’t once feel anxious or intimidated by the other people training. Alongside this is a hairdressers and beauticians as well as a protein bar. The changing rooms are small but have free lockers and are impeccably clean, and there is also a range of ‘products you may have forgotten’. Then if you walk through the changing rooms this leads onto an infra-red sauna (something you would usually pay the world for in other gyms to have the option to use!)
To be honest it’s one of the most relaxing gym settings I’ve been in. I forgot my headphones (rooky error), something that would usually irritate me beyond words, but this time I wasn’t bothered. The cardio machines have the most calming view looking over the countryside, green as far as the eyes can see, so I was quite happy running and cycling looking at the view.
The gym hosts a range of classes for both members and non members and these include Boxercise, Zumba, Pilates, Thai Chi and classes for kids. Prices range from £5-£10 depending on the class and membership status. There’s a large studio as well as an outside work out area.
Membership for the gym is £30 per month with no contract.
The gym also has free parking right outside.
So if you are looking for a reasonably priced gym, with a good variety of classes and a welcoming atmosphere then I would not hesitate to come to Vision Fitness, Henham. I’ll be back in the new year to train!
Disclaimer: Please note I was approached by the owner to write my honest opinion of the gym. Photos are a mix if my own and thanks to Ollie for supplying some professional shots for the post too. I was not paid to do this post. All opinions are my own.
