The Grounds of Alexandria
On 17th March 2017 by HelenToday I went to The Grounds Of Alexandria with my friend Jo. We decided as we both had the day off to go for brunch and have a good catch up and chat. After an interesting bus journey which consisted of the bus driver not really knowing where he was going we managed to find The Grounds pretty easily.
We headed to the The Grounds restaurant for brunch and it did not disappoint. I was really impressed with the staff, when I told them I was coeliac they were so helpful. They asked the chef if it was possible for my bread to be toasted separately to avoid gluten and he was more than happy to grill it for me which meant I could have a totally gluten free meal and not worry.
I had gluten free toast with a poached egg, bacon, avocado, feta cheese, tomatoes and za’tar. Jo had 2 poached eggs, chorizo, pumpkin, Parma ham and sourdough bread. I had a fresh orange juice and she had a smoothly. Oh my goodness it was one of the best breakfasts I have ever had and I felt stuffed afterwards!
Once we finished breakfast we looked at the bakery section which had the prettiest cakes ever! Also a bonus was they had gluten free ones too – so naturally I bought one to take home for an afternoon snack.
We then took a walk around. On the weekend there’s a market which wasn’t here today but Jo’s been before and there’s loads of independent little artisans there selling their work. Today was very relaxed with families brunching and lunching in both the restaurant we went to or The Potting Shed. There was a wedding going on in one area and a team building exercise going on in another. There was also a beautiful florist stall to look at.
Overall it had such a nice feel to it. I will 100% be going back there. I would highly recommend it.
