Palm Beach Trip
On 5th March 2017 by Helen‘You know we belong together…’ Have I planted the tune in your head?!
Today I went to Palm Beach, a stunning place and the location of the Aussie soap Home and Away. Clearly I am destined to have mainly grey skyed pictures on my blog for day trips (refer to National Park post) although today was slightly wet and rainy it still couldn’t be classed as cold.
Lucy, Charlie and I got the bus from the city early this morning. It’s a fairly lengthy bus journey at just over an hour but you get to see some pretty towns and scenery on the way so it’s not too bad. Once we arrived at Palm Beach we headed for The Boat House to get a morning coffee. There was a little take away stall so we bought ours there before we started our climb up to the lighthouse.
There are two options when ascending to the lighthouse a steep 800 meter winding hill or 400 metres of stairs. We took the stairs up and the hill down (right decision for sure)! The climb to the lighthouse is so pretty and the views back to that famous double crescent shaped beaches were stunning. Once at the top you could see for miles. We walked to the furthest point of the cliff and sat there for a bit of a rest before heading back down.
Once back on the beach we headed straight back the The Boat House for lunch which did not disappoint. The menu is pretty good and varied though it is pricey. I had a lovely salad made with poached chicken, cabbage, carrots, nuts, seeds and kale. The girls had burgers and Charlie was so brave and had her first oyster! My salad was so huge that they boxed up half of it and I finished it for dinner.
After we had lunch we became serious tourists and let out our inner Home and Away fans. We walked along the pier where every actor goes when their character needs some heavy thinking time or a meaningful chat. We next went to Alf’s bait shop which is technically the souvenir shop (not going to lie, what you could buy wasn’t worth the money). We next went onto the main beach featured and were sadly disappointed no River Boys met us but we had to remind ourselves it was only a story. Finally we walked to the life savers club. At this point the heavens opened and we decided to make a move back to the city.
Whilst waiting for the bus back The Boat House had an interiors shop so we had a quick mooch and oh my gosh it was my idea of heaven! I wish I could have brought everything home to the UK with me. Thankfully the bus came so I couldn’t spend money I didn’t have.
It was such a lovely day out. I would highly recommend spending the money to go and see it regardless if you like Home and Away or not. It’s just a beautiful area to visit.
