My First Summer Birthday!
On 15th December 2016 by HelenI turned 27 this week. That age where you are now counted in the late 20s category, that age where you feel you should probably have your life in some kind of order and that age where you slightly cry inside because you slowly have that realisation that you have nothing sorted or figured out (or at least I don’t…yet).
However it was my first summer birthday and I made the most of the day as I didn’t have to worry about bad weather! This is how is spent my time…
The night before my birthday my friends and I went to the Coogee Pavilion for drinks. I hadn’t been there before and it was such a nice place. Definitely my kind of night out, good music, good drinks, great atmosphere. It’s split over two levels, we went upstairs and outside onto the balcony. It’s strange being in a bar in December not wrapped up in layers and a thick coat and a scarf.
On my actual birthday, after waking up pretty early I got out all the cards and presents I had bought with me from the UK. I made breakfast and then spent some time opening everything. I was so lucky with what I was given. I truly have the best friends and family.
I then got up and took myself off on the coastal walk, walking from Coogee to Bronte. It’s good exercise and has the most stunning views, when I walk it I feel so happy to be here. It’s about a 6k round trip and the weather was absolutely perfect for it.
On returning home I chilled out a bit before heading for some brunch at Cali Press. I had an Acai bowl (not as good as Byron Bay) and a juice before I headed to the beach to read my book.
Due to my friends all being at work and me taking the day off I spent the day alone but it was actually really nice to be able to do what I wanted.
In the evening however I went into the city with my friend and housemate Lucy and we had dinner before going up to the 360 bar at the Sydney Westfield Tower. This is something I have wanted to do since being in Sydney and my friends from home were really generous clubbing together to give me some dollars so I decided to put some of the money towards this. The views are amazing and the tower spins which takes a few minutes to get used to. It’s such a great vantage point of the city and we went at the perfect time of day whilst it was still daylight but by the time we left it was dark so we could see the city from two different perspectives.
Once we returned home Lucy said she had one more surprise to end the day and presented me with the cutest raw, gluten free rocky road cake and of course the most sparkly candles every!
I had a fantastic birthday and it was nice to be able to go out and about in good weather. I wouldn’t do it every year but I think I would seriously consider going abroad for a week in December again in order to celebrate my birthday on the beach.
