London Christmas Lights 2018
On 1st December 2018 by HelenTo be back blogging…feels so good. You may remember last year I did Blogweekendmas sharing everything festive I did at the weekends during December. Unfortunately this year I don’t have much planned at the weekends but I do have loads planned mid week throughout the month and I want to share as much as possible; so let’s start.
London Christmas lights fill me with joy. The city just sparkles and I love the mood of the place. Last year’s blog was mammoth with me sharing Christmas lights and Kew Gardens in one post, so this year I think I’ll split them up. I’ve tried this year to go to different areas of London to show you different lights from the ones I showed last year. Big shout out to my friend Jo at this point, who spent the last part of our girly day in London walking round with me to take all the pictures!
Covent Garden
As always Covent Garden never disappoints with its spectacular tree decked in red lights and huge baubles, the huge Stag and the Mistletoe. Also the enormous bow on the side of the building opposite the station is one I’ve never seen before (probably not paying enough attention).
Seven Dials
I’ve heard so much about Seven Dials on Instagram and I had no idea it was so close to Covent Garden. Less than a five minute walk and you’re there. This year the decorations are made of recycled milk bottles and they look amazing.
Jo and I (on our Christmas lights mission) walked up a few of the ‘dials’ looking at the shops which were all so well decorated. I particularly liked Rocco Chocolates – I thought the bench with the wreath was so sweet and I particularly loved the glamorous entrance to Monmouth Kitchen.
The Ivy
The Ivy at Covent Garden this year was looking magical. I had to be quite savvy taking my pic as I didn’t think people would be too thrilled at me standing there taking pictures of them eating.
Leicester Square
Leicester Square hosts a mini Christmas market each year but I’ve never been in until now. It’s typical in style to German-style chalet buildings and the stalls sell everything from decorations and lights to jewellery and food. It is extremely busy, though, so be warned.
Strand
I loved the Strand and the lights were very pretty going the full length of the street.
The Natural History Museum
Believe it or not I’ve never seen The Natural History Museum at Christmas before. The day I was there (a couple of weeks ago) it poured with rain, hence the empty picture, but the tree and the ice rink are so quintessentially Christmassy and I love it. I can’t ice skate for love nor money so didn’t book to have a go…maybe next year.
