Las Iguanas Review
On 12th November 2017 by HelenFoodie post alert…I feel if I can’t travel, I’ll eat and I’ll always choose carbs as the way forwards because, well, they’re just so good. It does mean I complain on a weekly bases to my PT that my weight’s pretty stable and not going down as fast as I’d like (poor man’s just learnt to roll his eyes at me). Anyway back to the main point of this blog post – FOOD and not just any food, Mexican food; Las Iguanas to be precise.
I had heard of this place but never been until a few weekends ago and I was thoroughly impressed. The reason for this outing was because all my closest friends from Australia are now home and a few of us decided to meet up, catch up on old times and basically debate if the UK or Australia/New Zealand was the better place on earth (apart from the job security and family the other side of the world won). Obviously, me being the really awkward coeliac person meant the place had to suit mainly my dietary requirements and my friend Charlie is a vegetarian so she also needed a good menu choice. I’d been suggested this place by another friend months ago so we decided we’d give it a whirl.
We went to the South Bank restaurant literally the other side of Charing Cross bridge. It was a little bit like The Tardis inside with pretty cool neon lights and flora as decoration, but let’s not kid ourselves, food was the reason we were there and I was so, so impressed.
Firstly they have a completely separate gluten free and vegetarian menu which is printed on separate paper and taken from the main menu to save you basically spending half the time looking at what you can’t have, rather than what you can. The choice is pretty large and there is something for everyone.
I started with quite frankly the biggest bowel of nachos known to mankind (I gave it my best shot but couldn’t finish them), followed by a quinoa and corn risotto with smoked cheese and chilli, delicious, though I was so stuffed from the nachos I couldn’t finish it. Then dessert (there’s always room for dessert) was scrummy. Lucy and I shared Pina Colada ice cream with caramelised pineapple and coconut shavings and oh boy was it incredible.
The drinks were two for one, Lucy and Charlie had mojitos, Dan and I took one for the team having water (have to calorie balance somewhere) and Matt had beer.
The best part, all of it came to £20 each – bargain!!
I would 100% recommend this chain to anyone. The staff were really knowledgable on allergens and the place just had a nice feel to it.
