Blogweekendmas 2nd & 3rd December – Waddesdon Manor
On 5th December 2017 by HelenThis weekend was a great start the Blogweekendmas. It flew by and I can safely say I was exhausted at work on Monday.
Saturday kicked things off. I headed to Wattle&Co for coffee and gluten free pancakes stacked with stewed apple and maple syrup (I should own shares in this place I swear). I spent the morning running errands before returning home to get ready for the annual Friends Christmas Dinner. Fourteen of us headed to our friend’s flat and basically ate and drank way to much, played Christmas games and just had the best night. Safe to say I was a little tipsy when I got home.
Sunday however was the best day of the weekend (no offence to my friends). I went to Waddesdon Manor Christmas Market. I’d never been to the manor before, it used to be owned by the Rothschild family and is absolutely gorgeous. It looks like it should be a chateaux in France or Germany. As you arrived and looked down the driveway up to the house either side were Christmas stalls selling everything from decorations, to food, drink and clothing etc. They were all lit with fairy lights and just looked adorable. We strolled up the first side of stalls eyeing up the things we might want to purchase later on in the day (you know tactical browsing so you don’t spend everything at once) and grabbed a coffee before our allocated time to enter the house.
The house was every Christmas lovers dream! If you don’t like Christmas I’d stop reading now. There were Christmas trees everywhere and I mean everywhere, sometimes more than one in the room, with each tree having a different theme. The house just glowed with the lights on the trees and sparkle of the decorations. Once the light had faded outside, there was a light show at the front of the house which was pretty spectacular with images being projected onto the walls. We took another look around the market stalls before we headed back into the house for a champagne afternoon tea.
I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. It was two courses, a hot savoury platter including gluten free pigs in blankets, mini baked potato, trout wraps, egg and mayo sandwich and taurine. The cakes included a macaroon, panacotta, chocolate brownie, chocolate tart and scone. It was delicious and who doesn’t like anything that comes with champagne??
We left the manor around 6:30pm laden with Christmas presents, decorations and gluten free ale (I’m not even a massive fan of gluten free beer/ale but because I found a good one I couldn’t say no). It was such a great day, I felt a little bit like a three year old mesmerised by all the lights and Christmas goodness around. I’m so happy to be having a cold Christmas this year and I can’t wait to write the rest of my December blogs!
